City v Burnley: Injury update

Guardiola: "We are going to fight for all the trophies".

Guardiola: "We are going to fight for all the trophies".

Pep Guardiola promised to play the strongest team possible against Burnley in the FA Cup on Saturday.

However, the City boss admitted he has a depleted squad, with Vincent Kompany, Gabriel Jesus, Benjamin Mendy and Phil Foden all out injured.

Guardiola also says there is uncertainty over whether David Silva will play against Sean Dyche’s side. The Spaniard has been offered compassionate leave at his own discretion after the premature birth of his baby boy.

“Vincent is not available,” he said. “Gabriel is not available, Mendy is not available, Phil Foden is not.

“I don’t know if David will be. We have a training session at 4pm. We will see.

“It is not easy for me to explain what he [Silva] feels. He made a statement, explaining what happened. I prefer not to talk about that.

“He shows on the pitch he is able to forget everything. He decides if he wants to stay or go back home.

“We are going to try to play the best team as possible.

“The schedule is what it is. What I said after the last game against Watford, it was not about Christmas time or Boxing Day. I like that.

“[But] all the doctors and physios around the world say you cannot recover after 48 hours, in such a demanding competition.

“All managers give our opinion about many issues. We are going to play tomorrow and if the schedule says you have to play every two days, we are going to play.”

Asked if Kyle Walker was okay after he was seen limping from the field at the end of the 3-1 win over Watford on Tuesday, Guardiola said: "We will see later. Right now, I don't know."

ON TARGET: Sergio Agüero slips the ball past Heurelho Gomes for City's third.

The City boss says he has the utmost respect for Burnley, who currently sit seventh in the Premier League table.

They have lost twice on the road all season and have conceded just 19 goals in 22 league games.

Guardiola believes Dyche and his players deserve huge credit for their performances so far – but insists he is desperate to remain involved in all four competitions.

“What he has done and what they have done is amazing,” he said.

“After the five or six contenders for the Premier League, the next is Burnley.

“It’s a tough draw for us but of course, we want to keep going in that competition as well.”
